Dear Heavenly Father,

it’s astounding that we get to call YOU our Father.

You.

Perfect in love. Perfect in holiness. Perfect in purity. Perfect in justice. Perfect in knowledge. Perfect in wisdom. Perfect in righteousness. Perfect in power. Perfect in strength. Perfect in mercy. Perfect in grace. Perfect in creation. Perfect in redemption.

You are altogether perfect Lord. There is no flaw in You. You reign supreme.

From eternity past, in the present and forevermore. You are so worthy of all praise, all awe and all reverence. You deserve continual honour and glory. You deserve our full attention and affection. Lord we are but a speck before You.

Fallen, sinful, self-righteous, blind, hard-hearted, hypocritical idolaters.

And by Your great mercy, You caused us to see. You caused us to see our innate rebellion and Your immutable righteousness. John Newton aptly wrote, ’twas grace that taught my heart to fear’.

To stand in awe of Who You are and all that You’ve done, are doing, will do and are capable of doing. To mourn over my blatant, naïve, prideful disobedience and rejection of You, Your ways and Your heart. To tremble at the juxtaposition of my sin before Your holy holy presence. To prostrate my soul, my all before Your majesty.

And how rich Your mercy, how abundant Your grace, how encompassing Your love, that You chose our punishment to fall upon Your Beloved Son and paid the price for pardon. Thank You Jesus for lifting the veil of delusion that sin had drawn and for tearing the veil of distance between us and Yourself. Thank You my Saviour, for relieving the fear of eternal separation from You by securing my bond with my Father through Your precious Holy Spirit.

Oh Father, to fear You – to truly fear You, trumps any fear that can exist in this world. Teach me to fear You as I should. Teach us Father. Cause us to walk in joyful humility, in carefree trust, in loving reverence and willing obedience to You. Thank You that we can talk to You – the one and only King and You hear us.

Thank You that You care.
