The Beginning and End, the Creator and Sustainer, Mighty Warrior, Consuming Fire, Abba Father, Lion of Judah, Firm Foundation, our High Tower, Gentle Whisper, Intercessor, Helper, Messiah, Redeemer, Rewarder, Rock, Man of Sorrows, Friend of sinners, Good Shepherd, Teacher, Author of Salvation, Bread of Life, Light of the world, Truth, the Word, Lamb of God, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ.

Beloved, these are few of the names of our God!! They aptly describe Who He is and all that He has/can/will do. Imagine a high, sturdy structure (maybe Google images the term ‘strong tower’ – it helps)! It represents a means of security and sanctuary for its occupants. The only qualification to enter and stay in it is to be a refugee – one who is fleeing from danger and seeking protection. A strong tower provides safety and an elevated perspective of all that is unfolding below and around it. Now, read through the list above (or perhaps you can think of a name of God that I haven’t listed) and pick one (I picked Jehovah Nissi).

Pause with me, perhaps do a little bit of research, open up Scripture, talk to a friend/family member about what it means, what this Name means to you personally and pray to Him who owns it.

Our Father in Heaven,

hallowed be Your Name. Lord how rich the meaning of Your Name. How vast and life-giving. How comforting and awesome. Lord thank You that for every season of our lives, we can rest in the strong tower of Your Name – each Name a building block, with Christ as the Cornerstone. Lord thank You that through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, You have made those who repent and trust in Him to be called righteous! Jesus, because of You, we can rest safely in presence of El Elyon. Thank You our Good Shepherd, for comforting us with Your rod and staff, for guiding us with Your loving voice in the paths of righteousness. El Roi, nothing is hidden from You and how grateful we are for that! Father, cause us to lean into the reality of Your Names, cause us to rest in the eternal security that You’ve gifted to us and to view life’s battles through eyes of faith in Your vantage point.

May our battles evoke songs of praise about Who You are.

Love You Lord.
