This year, I’ve heard quite a number of people say, “I had so many things planned out for this year/ I felt like my life was finally starting to take off and now it’s all been turned upside down.”

Study plans, plans to move countries, to get married, to travel, to start a new business, to serve in another place, to meet up with friends/family, to build a house. Plans of different scales have been disrupted, delayed, or diminished due to this pandemic.

However, the thwarting of man’s schemes is not a new or unknown occurrence. I’m sure you can recall an instance in your own life where something did not go according to your expectations at all – whether it be failing to cook a meal as per the recipe, another job rejection, missing a train or bus, getting into an accident or something positive like scoring that goal that you did not anticipate you could make or receiving good test results. Our plans and expectations are susceptible to being frustrated because as smart, ambitious, well-organized and determined we can be, we will always only know in part. Our knowledge and perception is limited but God is able to perceive what goes on in a(n) universal, global, national, state-level, local, familial, relational, and personal scale – in eternity past, present and all that is yet to come!

Our Sovereign King,

thank You for always being in control. Lord, remind us when our plans are impeded, that You have allowed them to be so because You know best. We thank You in moments of disappointment and frustration for You know best. We thank You for the times when You grant us pleasant surprises – You’re so gracious Lord and we rejoice in You for those instances because You know best. How vast Your knowledge, how deep Your love and how sure Your authority.

Lord, even if the earth gives way or the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, secure our trust in Your providence and the immutability of Your power, for we know that You work all things together for the good of those who love you and we know that You know best.

Love You Lord.
