27 June

In my teenage years, I’d be quite confused when our church Pastor used to end the announcements with “And God willing, we will gather again next Sunday”. I’d think ‘obviously God will want us to come to church again…why wouldn’t He?!’

But after years of heartbreak, disappointments, and a whole lot of humbling, I realise how minute my knowledge and control of the next hour is…let alone a whole week! Saying ‘God willing’ is a verbal reminder to ourselves and our hearers of God’s supremacy and our dependency and a mark of wisdom and humility (if said genuinely).

I love James 4:13-16 – ‘Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.’.

What have you planned for tomorrow Beloved? Have you spoken to God about it and asked Him to lead?

Fun fact: Deo Volente (DV) is Latin for ‘God willing’. Perhaps you’d like to add a DV behind all things you’re hoping for and planning at this time. If they happen, PRAISE GOD and if they do not, we PRAISE GOD all the same for He always knows best.

Blessed Lord,

we commit our plans and desires into Your loving Hands. Please forgive us for our ignorant/stubborn brags Father. Help us to not to boast in our plans for the future but to boast in this – that we understand and know You, that You are the LORD Who exercises lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth – the One Who holds our tomorrows.

Keep us willing and ready to do what You want us to Lord.

I’m so glad that You’re the Boss.

Love You Lord.
