I love these ‘utterances’ of Agur.

Ultimately, he recognises man’s proneness to sin – especially in situations of extremity (abundance and lack). How true. When the blessings keep falling on our lap, do we forget God, pat ourselves on the back and think “I deserve all this, I earned this, I can do this all over again by myself…I don’t really need God.” When needs are aplenty, do we give up on trusting and waiting on God and attempt to fix things in sinful ways?

Perhaps, you’ve hit a dead end on your job hunt and the temptation to lie on your resume seems inviting. Or on the flip side, you’ve been earning so much that the temptation to spend that money on things that satisfy your flesh seems innately appealing…after all…you did put in all that hard work. I’ve definitely faced both those urges. Ah Beloved, let’s be weary of such seemingly insignificant thoughts and notions which the world champions and accepts.

For in both lack and abundance, whether it be financially, in health, in relationships – God is in control.

Jehovah Jireh,

thank You for being our Provider. Thank You for Your grace which is sufficient for us. Thank You for Your power which is made perfect in our weakness. Thank You that Your mercies are new every morning. Thank You for Your great faithfulness. Father, You know each of our hearts full well so we thank You that all that You ordain for us is based of Your perfect knowledge & perfect love for our ultimate good & Your ultimate glory. Please forgive us Lord for the times that we have given in to the beckoning of sin and Father lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the Evil one.

In scarcity, we praise You because we have the most valuable treasure – YOU. In plenty, we praise You because we realise that the pleasure it brings is but a fleeting shadow of the eternal joy found in knowing & living with You. In sickness or in health, thank You for never leaving us. In heartbreak or in happiness, thank You for never forsaking us.

Thank You Jesus for being my constant in this ever-changing world. Please help me to be constant in my love, obedience and faithfulness to You.

Love You Lord.
