This entire chapter is a warning to keep away from adultery, to refrain from unfaithfulness. Yet, it seems that it can still be relevant for those of us who do not have a spouse. Solomon reminds his reader that every choice is seen and known by God.
Whilst an adulterous act can be concealed from one’s partner, it can never be hidden from God. And as the Bride of Christ, our “spur of the moment”/willful instances of unfaithfulness to Him is fully known to Him. He knows when our eyes shift in focus, when our hearts waver in commitment, when we ‘flirt’ with the Enemy and his ways.
He knows and His love for us remains unchanged. He continues to be faithful in fulfilling His promise of completing the good work that He had begun in us. He continues to pursue us with His mercy, goodness and grace. He continues to hear our pleas, He continues to heal us. He is SO faithful, though I am SO unworthy of it and I am SO grateful for Him.
Dear Lord, thank You for Your wholesome love. Thank You for knowing us full well and loving us without reserve. It boggles my mind. It’s so humbling. You are incredible. Lord, please forgive us and help us to refrain from indulging in short lived pleasures that grieve Your Spirit and conceive guilt and shame in us. Help us Jesus, to walk in the victory You’ve won over sin.
Please increase our delight in You and our desire for You so that the things of this world and the temptations of the flesh dim in their appeal.
You’re the best.
Love You Lord.
